06.2 Does God want to be near me?
You've heard it said, “God cannot stand to be in the presence of evil.” Am I too evil for God to be near? Does God need to be separated from me?

Moses had to take off his shoes at the burning bush. The men who reached out to stabilize the Ark of the Covenant fell down dead. Doesn’t this mean God needs to be separated from me? That his natural state is to be far away?
After all, a quick explanation of the Gospel usually starts with something like “God cannot abide sin” or “God cannot stand to be in the presence of evil.” I’m supposed to understand that I am too evil for God to be near me, right? I’m some kind of gross bug, or a nasty smell.
Distance seems to be the theme between me and God.
